The outer is vegetable-tanned horse leather made with the pit-tanning method, where hides are soaked for nearly a month in tannin-rich pits. This long, labor-intensive process produces leather with a firm hand and remarkable depth of character. In Mud Dyed Brown, each jacket is hand-dyed individually in Amami Oshima, making every piece unique.
